Squad History Electric Candy was formed in 1999, over seventy girls turned up for our auditions but unfortunately only thirty-two made the grade. In just six weeks the squad had bonded together and were ready for their first photo shoot with the East Kilbride Pirates American Football Team. It was not long until the girls were cheering them on from the sidelines & promoting their routines at halftime. In their first year the squad performed at every home game for the Pirates & the East Kilbride football team E.K. Thistle. The girls gave their support to every gala day, parade, store opening, charity fund raisers & event they were invited to. However as most of the cheerleaders would agree before their first competition the highlight of the year would be a toss between performing on SM-TV Live with Ant & Dec or dancing at Celtic park. In our first year at competition we took home 4th & 5th place in our senior cheer & dance unfortunately the trophies only went up to 3rd place, but that year we took home the best prize of all, that being the experience. It was then that we realized that in order to be in the running for a trophy the following year we would have to limit our time promoting & spend more time on the competition routines. Our plan worked as we choose one event to do that year ,The McDonalds show at the Motherwell Theatre. & spent the remaining time practicing for our annual competition . (Dundee ) Our plan worked as that year we took home 2nd in senior cheer & third place in both junior cheer & dance. At the 2002 jubilee Scotcheer Nationals the atmosphere was electric & E.C.C. must have taken it all in as we left with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th place trophies. In2003 the standard had been raised dramatically by all the competing teams, this made for a very difficult but exciting event. Once again the squads gave an excellent performance including a 1st, 4th & 7th in the individual cheer. 4th runner up in pee-wee Scottish cheer, 3rd runner up in junior Scottish cheer & 3rd runner up in junior open WCA cheer. Last but not least the seniors took home 2nd runner up in the Scottish cheer & 3rd runner up in the WCA open. 2004 saw a new team emerge from E.C.C., that of the coed ( senior boys & girls ), a rarity in Britain. At that time E.C.C. was the only coed squad in the U.K. to compete using coed stunts. This may have been an inspiration to the teams as everyone did brilliantly & raised their game ten fold bringing home a whopping 19 trophies throughout all the competition divisions. All competitions have been difficult but in 2005 our biggest challenge came in that of the undefeated European champions, the Ascension Eagles from London. They had been setting the benchmark as champions for years & had been invited up to challenge our coed. Both teams had technically difficult stunts & superior choreography but by the end of the weekend E.C.C. emerged as the new European Champions. The senior dance also won a European champions banner as did the pee-wee stunt team & the senior stunt team. On top of which we returned home with 21 trophies in total. Our latest championships have been the best to date with the coed squad defending their title against the Sussex Tornado's . The stunt teams defended their titles and most proudly of all, the youth dance team coming from behind on day one to win the European title on day two. Kelly Frood & Alana Wright also became European champs along with seven second places & a haul of 23 trophies. As all my team know i am very proud of them, for their hard work & dedication . The commitment has been second to none. I look forward to our hopeful victories in the future in competition & events. Thank you to both the parents and coaches for your continued support
